Welcome to the Department of Economic History in Uppsala

The Department of Economic History has approximately 65 teachers, researchers and graduate students.

The undergraduate program covers all levels of economic history. The department also participates in undergraduate programs in economics, in financial and national economic analysis, in the social sciences and in civil engineering. Three courses in English covering Swedish and Scandinavian economic history are given for exchange students.

The department also offers programs for master and PhD degrees.

Much of the research at the department deals with the development of the labor market, business, banking and financial systems after 1945. However, a number of research projects and doctoral theses concern the development of trade and consumption, industry and agriculture in the 19th century and earlier. Gender and ethnic relations are also a subject of study.
