Research Interests
My main interest has for fifteen years been the relationship between decision-making in Science, Business and Politics and personal networks. In my Ph. D. thesis I studied the relationship between economic rationality and personal networks in the 19th century Swedish iron industry, from what might be termed an anthropological standpoint. The networks of CEOs and the effect they have on innovation/stagnation have been the target of another research project that has involved a broader investigation of Swedish big business during the 20th century. These two projects have resulted in the development of certain theoretical standpoints regarding the concept of networks. I have then proceeded to study the relationship between scholarship and scientific ideas on the one hand and networks and career strategies on the other hand. This project has concerned the construction of Swedish economic history, 1920—1950. Presently I am occupied with a project that investigates the professional identity of researchers and teachers at Swedish universities and how it is affected by political and financial reforms. The underlying hypothesis is that the professional system in this sector is rapidly changing and that this may result in the deprofessionalisation of teachers and researchers.
Teaching experiences
I have taught both in history and economic history, and on the STS program, although my teaching experience is somewhat limited. I have supervised two doctoral students to the completion of their dissertations, and I am currently supervising four.
